Lost at Night is a non-profit research platform. Volunteers help locate and georeference astronaut photographs of Earth taken at night, in order to study artificial light pollution. The service is provided free of charge, on a best-effort basis, with no service-level guarantees.
When you submit control points, georeference an image, or otherwise contribute, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use those contributions for scientific research, education, and dissemination purposes. Your contributions remain attributable to your username unless you have disabled public visibility.
We may suspend or delete accounts that breach these rules.
ISS imagery is provided by NASA and is in the public domain. The Lost at Night software is open source (GPLv3). Aggregated and derived datasets produced by the project may be released under open licences such as CC BY-SA.
The service is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for incidental or consequential damages arising from use of the platform.
You may delete your account at any time from the user profile page. Pseudonymised scientific contributions will be retained for research purposes.
These terms are governed by Spanish law. Disputes shall be submitted to the courts of Zaragoza, Spain, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection laws.
